The Brick in Architecture Awards winners for 2024 have been announced, showcasing exemplary projects that highlight the versatility and aesthetic appeal of fired-clay brick. The Brick Industry Association (BIA) honored 44 projects across various categories, recognizing designs that exemplify innovation and excellence in utilizing brick as the primary building material.
The award gave nine trophies, this embodies different categories, such as commercial, residential, educational and historical reconstruction. Notable among the awardees were those that reimagined parking lots as public spaces, cast traditional brickwork in modern contexts, and transcended the historic bubble while maintaining the original charm.
1. Ace Hotel Toronto:
Ace Hotel Toronto by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects is a fine example of such craftsmanship and the potential for economic development that architecture brings. Nova Group Mrk 1 The identification of curvilinear arch elements along with the intricate brick work which was developed by Limen Group marks the success of this project.
2. Canvas House:
Canvas House, a residential single-family project by Partisans in Toronto, redefines contemporary architecture with its undulating skin of blonde brick. Crafted by Taylor Clay Products and arranged in a pixelated pattern by Finbarr Sheehan, this project showcases innovation in residential design.
3. 1 Boerum Place:
SLCE Architects' project, 1 Boerum Place in New York City, epitomizes elegance in residential multi-family architecture. Featuring slim, sand-colored bricks and cantilevered balconies, this Brooklyn housing complex adds a touch of modernity to urban living.
4. 345 North Morgan:
Eckenhoff Saunders' office building, 345 North Morgan in Chicago, Illinois, demonstrates excellence in thin brick construction. With lofty barrel vaults and dark brick supplied by Interstate Brick, this project redefines office architecture with its innovative design.

5. TCU Music Center:
Bora Architecture & Interiors' TCU Music Center in Fort Worth, Texas, stands as a beacon of inspiration in education architecture. Featuring a facade of multi-hued blonde brick supplied by Acme Brick, this project reimagines educational spaces with creativity and vision.
6. John Webb Elementary School:
In Arlington, Texas, the John Webb Elementary School, designed by BRW Architects, showcases bold design in K-12 education. With darkly colored brick arranged in intricate patterns, this project exemplifies innovation and creativity in educational architecture.
7. West End Square:
Formerly a parking lot, West End Square in Dallas, Texas, now stands as a vibrant public park, thanks to Field Operations' transformative design. Defined by a red-brick promenade and herringbone pattern, this project revitalizes urban spaces with beauty and functionality.
8. Foundry 101:
Cambridgeseven's Foundry 101 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, preserves history through sensitive historic renovation. Collaborating with The Stiles & Hart Brick Company, this project sensitively converts a 103-year-old building while maintaining its 19th-century brick charm.
9. TIC Art Center:
In Guangzhou, China, the TIC Art Center stands as a beacon of global excellence in civic architecture. Featuring long bricks in varying shades of red produced by LOPO China, this project showcases the versatility and beauty of brick across international borders.
