IIDA Announces the Winners of the 41st Interior Design Competition
The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has announced the winners of the annual Interior Design Competition. The competition aims to recognize the “outstanding and innovative” interior design projects which demonstrate “new ideas and techniques.”
The winners of the competition include the Spa in Mallorca, Porto Cristo Spain by A2 Arquitectos.
The project is located at Hostel Castell dels Hams in the island of Majorca. The spa is an extension of an existing pool. It was built to become an adjacent supplementary space to the heated pool. While the pool area had a series of square openings in the ceiling which allowed light to come through, the spa provided a great view of the landscape and ample natural lighting while guests relax and get their skin treatment. With A2 Arquitectos’ design, the spa is not considered as a secondary feature of the hotel but became one of the design highlights of the hotel’s sunny Mediterranean facade.
Another winner of the competition is the One One Street Lobby Fitout in Brisbane Australia by Cox Rayner Architects. The sustainable building provides a dramatic benefit of adding a cultural identity to Brisbane as a city. Its urban design creates a dynamic retreat to the city and is a visual treat from the ferry terminal to Brisbane’s commercial business district.
Other winners include the M Building at Beverly Hills Center, California by Gensler Architects.
Cornell Community Center and Library by Perkins+Will
Yoo Residence in Hong Kong by Steve Leung Designs
And the Refinery Hotel in New York City by Stonehill & Taylor Architects.
Aside from awarding the 41st International Interior Design, IIDA also proclaimed Coffee Bar Kearny in San Francisco by Jones|Haydu as the recipient of the 22nd Will Ching Award.
The panel of judges in the Interior Design competition includes David Darling of IIDA and the founding partner of the Aidlin Darling Designs, Ed Bakos, the managing director of Champalimaud, Ray Escheid, the senior vice president of store design and merchandising of Bank of America and Alessandro Munge, the principal and managing partner of Munge Leung.
