All the shows in TGIT lineup are coming back with more seasons for 2017 to 2018. The Disney-owned company, ABC, has just announced the news last Friday which will bring “Grey’s Anatomy” reach its 14th season, “Scandals” its 7th and “How to Get Away with Murder” to its 4th season. All the three shows renewed are produced by Shondaland and executive producer Betsy Beers.
The three shows are the first set of series granted with renewals in ABC and will complete the TGIT branding of the network. According to Hollywood Reporter, the show has won over the network’s viewer rating in the last several weeks in the 18 to 49 demographic. ABC Entertainment Group president Dungey said “I’m thrilled to bring back these shows and the OMG moments that come with them,”
As for “Scandal” that stars Tony Goldwyn and Kerry Washington, the show may be extended but its producers admit that it may not have the same longevity like “Grey’s Anatomy.” Variety reported that scripts of the series are much longer than the usual drama so its endgame is somewhat near. Dungey admits they have already discussed the series’ endgame and the only thing sure is that it will be back in 2018. After that, they will still have to talk about it.
Then there is “How to Get Away with Murder” that features Viola Davis which made a comeback last month with impressive viewer ratings. The series’ first aired in 2014 and had positive reviews ever since, especially for Davis’ performance.
The previous program line-up when “Scandal” was temporarily replaced by “Notorious” was not very good. The series stars Daniel Sunjata and Piper Perabo where its order was lessened and is assumed not up for a new season. Fortunately, “Scandal” is now back in the game together with “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Grey’s Anatomy”.
