National Design Awards 2014 WINNERS
The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum will be once again awarding one of the most prestigious design awards of the year through the National Design Awards.
This year’s winners are:
Roman and Williams (Interior Design)
Brooks +Scarpa (Architecture Design)
Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture (Landscape Architecture)
Witold Rybczynski (Design Mind)
Etsy (Corporate & Institutional Achievement)
Office (Communication Design)
Narciso Rodriguez (Fashion Design)
Aaron Koblin (Interaction Design)
LUNAR (Product Design)
Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar (Lifetime Achievement Award)
The winners were decided by a jury of design leaders who reviewed the submissions nominated by the general public and based them according to excellence, their work’s public impact and innovation. A minimum of seven years of practice is one of the criteria for the individual nominees while the Lifetime Achievement Award nominees should have been in professional practice for at least 20 years.
Director Caroline Baumann said, “As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the program, I am delighted to welcome this new class of extraordinary designers, each of whom represent the very best in their discipline and demonstrate design’s power to affect the quality of our life, community, economy and environment.”
The awarding ceremony will take place on October 9, 2014.
The National Design Awards was launched in 2000 as a part of the White House Millennium Council’s project in the White House. It’s goal is to promote the role of design as a vital tool in shaping the human world. Every year, the awarding ceremonies take place along with a number of special events, panel discussions, public education programs and workshops.
For this year, First Lady Michelle Obama will serve as the Honorary Patron for the award-giving body in design.
